The famous NDSM shipyard in Amsterdam North inspired the designers at studio APE to create the NDSM chair. The shipyard is known for its iconic harbour cranes, which have become a distinctive part of the industrial aesthetic and cultural heritage. The wooden legs of the chair directly reference the harbour cranes, while the hull of a ship served as the inspiration behind the rounded backrest.
